AeroTouch Website

Hi everybody,

Above is the website screen that me and Tu have done. We nearly finish the website, just a little bit fixing the code and it will be completely finished.

Besides, I have sent everyone the details about where Tu have put the animation video. Please have look.

Regarding the sound editing, I think Nic is such an expert for it. However, he would be happy if anyone volunteer to share this part with him.

Regards,
Michelle

Peer Reviewing for Fehim_s3640407

1/ Is there sufficient difference between FORMAL and INFORMAL design ?

RUBBISH FONT

This is the Formal design artwork which based on the Dominance principle. At the first glance, I pay all attention to the letters of "Rubbish". They represent as Dominants, the objects that give the most visual weight compared to the other elements. Subsequently, the flies and circulated lines are Sub-Dominants and Subordinates respectively. In order, Sub-Dominant gives the secondary emphasis; while Subordinate gives the least stress.

CD COVER

The front CD cover is also the Formal design that based on Dominant and Balance principles. Similarly with the 'Rubbish Font' Dominance concept, the title of 'Trance Anthems' refers to the Dominant in this wholly composition. Next, the 3D modeling Face is the Sub-Dominant. Finally, the singers' names that placed at the bottom are the Subordinates.
On the other hand, in regard with 'Balance' principle, I could mentally imagine that there is a vertical line placed in the middle of the cover. It separates the left and right elements equally. Therefore, it is the Symmetrical Balance

LINE ANIMATION

Fehim had done a great 'Electrical Lines' animation. It imitated the 'Heart Beats' that we usually see on the hospital machines. For me, this is the Formal design animation. It is implemented with the 'Balance' principle. In general, the red button plays as the 'Vertical Line' that dividing the two green grid circle into the equal spaces. In addition, it is looked like as the circle on the one side is mirrored the remaining on the other side. Thus, this constructs the Symmetrical Balance.

2/ Is the concept appropriate for INFORMAL ?

None of them are the 'Informal Design', whereas they are the 'Formal Design'. Especially, there are two of them related to 'Symmetrical Balance'. It is contrary to the concept of 'Informal Design' that refers to 'Asymmetrical Balance' principle.

3/ Give suggestions how improvements can be made & how ideas can be developed further (look at the use of space, colour, tone, type, scale, etc)

 RUBBISH FONT

As Fehim has inspired from the ideas of “smelly summer time rubbish and the garbage trucks driving through the city streets dripping hot rubbish juices that got squeezed by the trucks compactor”, therefore I suggest that if he changes the blank background to the concrete floor image, the context will better adapt to the predefined ‘Street’ sight.

CD COVER

The negative space can be improved by lightening its foreground colour. As its genre involved to fiction which is related to universe, Fehim has skilfully create effects such as: Fired Explosion and Stars Sky. However, the more complex the background is, the more shadowy it deepens the foreground elements. Besides, the foreground is originally quite dark with grey colour. This may make the fore elements easily sink into the background when the blending effect applied to them. Therefore, if the foreground changing the colour to bright tone, it would make ‘3D Face’ stand out more clearly.
Finally, there is some technical problem appeared when the foreground trying to blend into the background. As the foreground right cutting edge is till vividly seen; this caused by the different colour and size unmatched between the foreground and the background. Thus, in my opinion, it would be better if we use the ‘Blur’ tool to reduce the edging visibility.

LINE ANIMATION

I like the idea of 'Pulses' that Fehim has tried to imprint to our mind by the sharp-edged ‘Electrical Lines’ moving across the two green grids circles. For me, it has successfully makes the audiences in thought of ‘Heart Beats’ which related to the author’s concept of “Pulses’. Thus, there is no need to make any change in this animation. However, the red button should be improved by applying ‘glowing-inner’ effect to make it look more ‘real’.

4/ Rate the
overall aesthetic and explain why ?
use s.w.o.t analysis

strength > what is good about the work ?

 RUBBISH FONT

Its good point is that clearly expressing the ‘Smelling’ letters by decorating around the typeface with the circulated circles and flies

CD COVER

Fehim has completely depicted his concept of “Universe” by creating shiny stars sky effects. In fact, it is the first thing that painted on my mind, I absolutely thought about universal space when I looked at it.

LINE ANIMATION

This refers to the ‘Pulses’ concept that normally appear on the mechanical things (hospital machines) by animating the sharp-edged lines over the grids cirles.

weaknesses > what is not working ?

 RUBBISH FONT

The idea of ‘Hot rubbish juices’ is not decoded clearly by the audiences. The typefaces look like the ‘art drawing’ letters.

CD COVER

The foreground is still not completely merged into the background as we still see its visualized cutting edges. Furthermore, the ‘3D face’ is quite shadowy that compared to the background colour.

LINE ANIMATION

The button is not physically visualized as it looks like the ‘imaging’ circle that drawn on the screen.

opportunities > what can the work be improved ?

The improvements are as same as the above (Question 3)

threats > what is / may deny the work from succeeding ?
RUBBISH FONT

It may make the audience misunderstand the ‘Rubbish Juices’ to the ‘Art Letters’

CD COVER

It rather looks like a fiction movie VCD cover than a music CD cover

LINE ANIMATION

The red button is not enough ‘realistic’ to describe a characteristic of a physical form.

MWEB Design

As the ‘M’ letter was composed with orange font and white background, therefore I made the web page background orange. It would look likely that orange colour from ‘M’ flowed out to the background. Then, the top of the page and the main content backgrounds were white. Besides, in similarity with the logo typeface, the content texts also used Century Gothic font.
As a result, these would create a unity sense between the logo and the web page.

Visual Diary- MWEB Design Logo

As my name is Mishelle, therefore I took the first letter of ‘M’ combined to the service tittle. As a result, MWEB Design is the business name. Next, the logo is the ultimately important thing that needed before designing the website. It represents the business identity. It is the first thing which audiences look at, memorizing and recognizing who we are and what we do. “Products are made in a factory; brands are created in the mind”, (Walter Landor)

An Idea from Visual Diary- The Final Products

Visual Diary- Mythical Creature Concept Development

Inspiration / Initial Concept:

From my research, I’m quite impressed by the artworks of Medusa and Cerberus which are created by Michelangelo and Todd respectively. Medusa image was created by a combination of the artist’s face and the hair of snakes. Regarding Cerberus, the artist skillfully embedded the frightened skull faces of people into the whole body of Cerberus. It is similar to photo mosaic artworks, many small pieces construct a completely target image. As a result, these are such the good examples of how the combination of many elements will result in an exciting artwork which depends on the genre that you want to express.

Furthermore, I’m also inspired from the Greek mythology of Medusa. She was an extremely beautiful girl before turned into the ugly monster. This was a consequence of her arrogance.

These above ideas make I have a concept that my creature should be an unfinished transformation from the human to the demon. It will be a ‘half Human half Monster’.

According to the concept, an ultimately priority thing that I need to find is the image of the girl’s face. In an aspect of beauty, it should be keenly beautiful. Besides, it may also describe a personality of arrogance of the character though the face expression. Therefore, I choose the below image (Girl’s face). Then, I also choose some images which are able to be combined with the face to construct the demon’s face.

Concept Thumbnail Sketching:

Step 1: Face with skull shaped
 Girl’s face + Skull

Step 2: Mechanical hair
              Cog-Wheel + Skeleton

Step 3: Externally exposed teeth
The girl’s lip is masked to Skull teeth

Step 5: Convert the Human eye into the Evil eye (Darkness Eye)
Darken an area around the eyes
              Prickle Ball + Eye

Step 6: Fill the forehead’s empty space
Crown is placed on the forehead

Medusa by Caravaggio 1595
Genre: Horror
Artwork Type: Self-Portrait

This painting was created by combining the artist drawing face and the headdress of snakes.

Firstly, the idea came when he looked at himself in the mirror. Then he decided to draw out his crooked face. The face expression was strongly emphasized interesting in the head of the Medusa. It was culminated by the physical muscular action as protruding the eyes, furrowing the bridge of the nose, and opening the mouth in a scream.
Next, his head was decorated by attaching the headdress of snakes. The snakes were instead of his hair. As a result, The Medusa’s head was accomplished.
Finally, he also inspired from the Greek legendary as he painted the Medusa’s head on the round wood shield. According to the legendary, the Medusa's head which placed on the shield played a classical role as a direction to repel the enemy.

 13 x 17 Pencil 1994
In the collection of Todd and Rita Lockwood

Genre: Fantasy, Horror
Artwork Type: Pencil Drawing
The above image of Cerberus is a pencil drawing. Inspired from the Greek mythical Cerberus, the artist drew this image which was imaginary to illustrate a horrible monster.
It was composed by the dragons’ heads and the bodies of the dogs. Especially, to climax the genre of horror, the monster was drawn with the enormous mouths, the terribly sharp teeth and the whole body had the human bodies, skeletons and the frightened faces attached. When zooming to the image, the audiences could feel how painful these people were suffered through their dreadful face expressions.
Furthermore, there were lots of human bones are scattered under its legs and on the ground. It seemed to me that there was the uncountable number of people who had been eaten by this monster.
Consequently, once again it gives the viewers the strong feeling and the horrible imagination of ‘Death’.

Zebra-Lionfish by Enryco
Genre: Fantasy
Artwork Type: Digital Photoshop Image

This artwork is about a surreal creature. It is the result of the combination of the two animals: Zebra and Lionfish. The body is belonged to the Zebra while its head is the Lionfish.  In my point of view, there are two main steps used to attain this result successfully.
Firstly, the head needs to be fit with its ‘new’ body. To do this, after detaching from the background, the lionfish’s head will be cut apart from its tail and then it is also resized to a suitable size which is appropriate for the zebra’s body.
Similarly, the zebra’s head is taken out of its body. Then, the head is joined with the body by using the Photoshop cutting edged tools; layer blend modes layer masks and paint brush. The layer blend mode used here is ‘Lighten’. It lets the layers interact with each other by blending one layer to another layer below it. After that, the top layer is applied layer mask. This makes the specific part of the underneath layer is masked by the layer which is on top of it. The idea of the layer mask is that everything behind the mask is not visible and everything else is visible. Combining with the layer mask, the paint brush tool whose the color switched to black is used to hide some exceeded parts of the top layer with.
Finally, the head changes its colors to black and white to suit with the body’s pattern color. It is done by applying image adjustments ‘Black and White”.
